Read all. In a story centered on Tatsuo, an aging tofu master in Onomichi, and his particularly devoted daughter Haru, Mihara clearly channels Ozu's "Late Spring" and "Early Summer" in capturing the specifics of their close relationship.
The Clown Moments felt like a different movie than what was intended
The plot continues as each eventually finds potential partners, but not until the requisite number of comedic scenes with the standard characters have played out quite broadly. Regardless, film veteran Tatsuya Fuji plays Tatsuo with grumpy élan, while Kumiko Aso provides thoughtful assistance as Haru.
For a film with a similar sensibility about the artistry behind unique Japanese food, I suggest watching Naomi Kawase's 2015 An (Sweet Bean)
Fuji's scenes with Kumi Nakamura as a sick old woman were touching, although the atomic bomb connections seemed contrived to inject more pathos into the film.
