Synopsis

The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes a living by carrying out high-paying hits. He soon meets his match in a tough British intelligence officer who follows him on a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. That's when I had this crazy, crazy idea to write a novel

He said, "I came back for Christmas '69 pretty much skinned." I had no chance of a job, no flat, no car and no savings. 'Everyone said you had to be joking or upset because the odds of being released were 100 to 1, even thousands.' Within weeks of its release, the rights to the film were snapped up. Some of Hollywood's biggest stars were in the running to play the Jackal in the 1973 film, but then-unknown Edward Fox was cast because director Fred Zinnemann thought he could make a name for himself in the crowd. TLDR: Redmayne gets it

Credited to The Graham Norton Show: Denzel Washington/Paul Mescal/Saoirse Ronan/Eddie Redmayne/Blossoms (2024). Lynch is wrong, unfortunately, the main characters are not equal to each other, which makes the otherwise spectacular and high-quality production worse. Lynch has no nuance, it's just a high bar set by Redmayne. A more experienced actor could have done better.

Overall, the story is a viable adaptation

a more authentic human counterpart/opponent character is needed to challenge the Jackal. The character development works, although some things are left open in the main characters' narratives, but that's to be desired. The locations, varied interactions, and Redmayne's changes in language and characters really add a special layer to the story arc. The deceptive barometer is always lit in the background.

If it happens, Se02 could be very promising

I'm curious to see how Se01 ends and how they maintain or improve the quality in Se02. Hopefully Lynch feels less forced and gives a more nuanced performance to try to match Redmayne.
